AI is a tool. A powerful tool. What happens in the future will depend on how we use it. Just like nuclear fission, which we can use to build reactors to generate electricity or to build bombs. If AI wipes out the human race it will be because we have misused it. And that will be our fault, not the technology’s.
FWIW, I expect AI to bring great benefits in many areas and there will be some disasters along the way. The biggest problem is that we will voluntarily become dependent on it. We will trust it without thinking and suffer the consequences, good and bad. But that will be our fault. Unless a super-intelligent AI can show us how to live in peace and harmony and convince us to do just that, I see no hope for the human race.
